Ashton’s Place has developed training and education to support the staff, community and families supporting young neurodivergent children.

Online Training Modules

Online training modules have been developed to cover a range of topics which support the learning of neurodivergent children in early education settings.

ACE Programme Training

All Ashton’s Place staff members engage in regular training, to ensure that each team member holds the essential and desirable skills

required to meet the needs of the children that they support.

Training includes mandatory training relating to the NDIS Practice Standards and other National Disability Insurance Scheme guidelines, and working with young children, along with trainings that are specific to the running of the ACE Programme, such as:

  • The use of ACE to support communication
  • Understanding sensory preferences
  • Engaging in responsive food exploration
  • Supporting toileting independence
  • Becoming a play partner
  • Supporting meaningful interactions
  • Understanding behaviour as communication
  • Responsive strategies to support positive behaviour Meaningful participation in an early education setting

Early Childhood Education and Care Support

Ashton’s Place offers coaching and mentoring to early childhood educators, to support them with:

  • Development and implementation of consistent routines
  • Development of classroom specific supports and routines
  • Challenging behaviours e.g. identifying triggers and appropriate responses to facilitate skill development
  • Key transition times e.g. hand washing, group time, engaging in learning experiences
  • Supporting neurodivergent children
  • Developing tools and resources support positive and successful learning environments

Parent Capacity Building & Training

Our transdisciplinary team offers a range of parent/caregiver training and coaching for families, to develop their knowledge and understanding of different ways they can support their child across environments.

These supports include but are not limited to:

  • Building connection and relationships
  • Understanding sensory preferences
  • Communication strategies and supports
  • Self care routines (toileting, mealtimes, dressing)
  • Transition to school
  • Understanding the behaviour cycle
